Obelisk Architects is based on a group of professional individuals working together to pioneer a solution for your individual need. The design studio makes the most of the special talents and expertise of every staff member in order to produce the highest level of original works. Obelisk’s staff is passionate about Architecture and the clients that allow them the honor to collaborate.


Principal
Nagy R. Bakhoum, Architect

Nagy Bakhoum is a licensed architect in the state of California.
In 1990, he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. Prior to moving to the South Bay, he worked in Santa Barbara on high-end residential and commercial projects. His experience also includes working hands on in the construction field for several years, this opportunity is where Nagy obtained the knowledge of how buildings come together structurally. He gained practical experience while working with a South Bay firm in the areas of architecture, interior design, and landscape design. In 1997 he founded Obelisk Architects.

For over fifteen years he has been a Professor of Architecture in the L.A. Community College District and is on the Architectural and Landscape Review Committee for the community of Bel Air Crest, in Beverly Hills. His work has been published in The Los Angeles Times and he has co-authored the 4th and 5th edition of the Professional Practice of Architecture text, a required reading for future architects. 
Nagy’s passion is architecture and he is also your primary contact, and his diplomacy and communication skills provide personalized service.
 


Project Administrator
Natalie K. Bakhoum


Natalie Bakhoum received a Masters of Administration from the University of La Verne in 1996. She also received a Bachelors of Liberal Arts from Westmont College in 1991. She gained practical experience while working with the Torrance Unified School District and the Marymount College Summer School program. She developed the multi-campus South Bay summer school program where she hired staff and developed requirements to provide a balanced environment.

Natalie established a company that consults with city planning and building departments to provide radius notification services and Title 24 energy conservation regulatory requirements. She brings to Obelisk a merger of her company and her administrative and managerial skills in order to assist in keeping your project schedule and proper staffing on track. Among her many endeavors perhaps her favorite is visiting cultures and communities around the globe.


Associate, Project Manager
Mercy Girala-Tye


Mercy Girala-Tye earned a Bachelor’s of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University at Pomona in 1991. Not long after, Mercy joined Obelisk Architects and continues to have a strong background in high-end residential, multi-family and estate homes.

Mercy manages projects, designs and prepares construction documents, as well as develops graphic presentations. In addition to her drafting abilities and talents in architecture she is also quite amazing at dancing the salsa.


Associate, Project Manager
Tamara Fofonka-Jelenic


Tamara Fofonka-Jelenic has an Associates of Science degree in Architectural Technology from Los Angeles Harbor College. In 2005, Tamara joined Obelisk Architects and provides project design support and drawing preparation. Her work has included the preparation of construction documents using AutoCAD, graphic presentations, permit processing, and renderings for high-end residential projects and commercial projects such as churches.

Tamara manages projects, designs and prepares construction documents, as well as develops graphic presentations. In addition to her drafting abilities and talents in architecture she also is fond of traveling the world.


Designer, CAD Specialist
Sandy Ghaly


Sandy Ghaly is an Architectural graduate of the Fine Arts College, Helwan University, and joined our firm in 2012. She continues working on her Master’s Degree at Woodbury University and plans for a graduation in 2015. Sandy provides project design support and drawing preparation. Her work has included the preparation of construction documents using AutoCAD, Photo Shop, permit processing, and renderings for high-end residential projects and commercial projects such as churches.

Sandy manages projects, designs and prepares construction documents, as well as develops graphic presentations. In addition to her drafting abilities and talents in architecture she is fond of all that Southern California has to offer and dance music.
